APM Presidential Candidate Seyi Makinde Formally Launches 2027 Campaign
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has officially opened its presidential campaign office in Abuja. The event saw a vibrant turnout, attended by dignitaries and leaders from various political parties, including representatives from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and others.
In his opening remarks, the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, expressed confidence in the party's prospects. He stated that Nigerians are resolute in their determination to elect the APM across all levels in the 2027 general elections, driven by a shared desire to address the nation's current precarious conditions. Dantalle emphasized that the party’s ticket—featuring Seyi Makinde and Lawal Daura—is designed to tackle Nigeria's most pressing challenges: insecurity, poverty, and economic degradation. He noted that Makinde would prioritize economic revitalization and poverty alleviation, leveraging his experience as Governor of Oyo State, while Lawal Daura, a recognized security expert, would lead efforts to address the nation's security threats.
The highlight of the event was the address by the APM presidential candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, followed by the official commissioning of the campaign office. Addressing concerns over economic policy, Makinde stated that he is not opposed to the restoration of fuel subsidies. He reiterated that as an oil-producing nation, Nigeria should not be paying exorbitant prices for fuel, emphasizing that domestic oil production should prioritize the needs of the Nigerian people.
During the good will messages, Mr. Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate and former Labour Party presidential candidate, declared that the unity of the opposition is sacrosanct. He emphasized that he is not desperate to become President of Nigeria in 2027, prioritizing opposition unity ahead of the general elections.
The APM leader and Governor of Bauchi State, who is also a senatorial candidate for Bauchi South, warned that those underestimating Seyi Makinde are doing so at their own peril, predicting that the Makinde-Daura ticket would surprise skeptics in 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the former Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Aliyu Babangida, who is currently the Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees, also called for opposition unity to combat corruption and insecurity. He noted that recent meetings among opposition leaders in Ibadan and Abuja are already yielding positive results, citing the presence of Peter Obi as evidence of this growing collaboration.
